ANZAC DAY - Lest We Forget

ANZAC Day is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The word ANZAC stands for 'Australian and New Zealand Army Corps' and the soldiers in those forces quickly became known as ANZACs, and the pride they soon took in that name endures to this day.

Are you looking at scrapbooking an ANZAC Day or other military page? If so and you happen to be looking for some Australiana accents, why not check out these!

Ragged Borders by Sharon Jeffs

Sharon loves creating ragged borders with different papers. She finds it's a great way of using up scraps of paper & cardstock whilst creating a unique & effective result each and every time!

Sharon begins by choosing 3 different pattern papers with colours that look effective together.
She then tears them into strips that are approximately 3cm wide.

She then choses two different types of border punches and she uses each on one on a particular piece of patterned paper.

To complete a border like the one featured above, she simply doubled everything and then layered them all together ie. torn edge/scallop edge/torn cardstock edge/filigree border edge/torn paper edge/etc.

How simple and effective!

As you can see from the page at left; layered borders also don’t need to be used as one long strip - notice how Sharon has cut one in half and then mitred the two halves to create a large photo corner type effect. Such a great idea Sharon!

Core dinations 'Black Magic' Cardstock

Core dinations 'Black Magic' Cardstock is now in stock at Scrappit!

This stunning cardstock is ideal for distressing, sanding or tearing as it allows the cardstock to show its true underlying colour.

With 20 assorted colours in each pack, they're definitely very good value too!

Here's a little inspiration from Frances using the 'Core dinations' cardstock - in keeping with the rustic theme of her page, Frances not only tore the photo mat but also took her sanding block to the cardstock to remove some of the surface black so that the underlying colour would show through. Obviously, the more sanding, the more intense the colour that you will see!

Stay tuned for more inspirational ideas using 'Core dinations' coming soon!

*New* Competition!

We are very excited about this one - lets just say, this competition is something a little different from the usual!

We will have two sections in which you can enter - 'Girl Portrait' page &/or 'Landscape' page.

Once nominating the category you wish to enter, we will email you the appropriate photo (full size and suitable for printing) to use - this is the only condition for entry into this competition. You are then free to scrap the photo supplied in any way you like and you have until the May 15th, 2008 to upload a photo or scan of your completed page to our Gallery.

The prize for your creativeness and design is a 5% discount on all purchases for a period of 6 months, plus an Encouragement award of a $15.00 shopping voucher for both sections. We encourage any one to enter - from the scrapper just starting to those that are old hands.
Winning entries will be notified by email and don't forget, you MUST register your interest by emailing us at Scrappit in the first place, so that we can send you the 'full' sized photo of your nominated category.

NOTE: the pics above have been cropped and are not shown complete - remember, you have loads of flexibility - it is your choice how you choose to print the image and at what size!

We can't wait to see your wonderful creative entries!

Tim Holtz - Grungeboard

Tim Holtz Grungeboard is back in stock at Scrappit!

Grungeboard is one very unique product - if you haven't seen it before, it's very similar to chipboard BUT - and it's a big BUT - it is so much more durable & flexible. You can bend it, ink it, paint it, sand it, emboss it, etc., all without it effecting the structure of the product!

Most popular of the products in stock, seems to be the Grungeboard 'Alphas'! With 9 complete alphabet fonts - that's a whopping 234 letters in total - this is certainly one pack of goodies, that you will return to time and time again.

Also available is the 'Elements' Grungeboard which consists of 94 individual shapes including wings, skulls & crossbones, hinges, scrolls, hearts, stars, keys, label holders and many more.

Infact, here's a close-up view of a Grungeboard hinge that I included on a recent page. It's been inked and had metallic rubons applied to it's surface to really 'age' it, before finishing it off with some 'rustic' looking brads as well!

One of the things I love about Grungeboard is that because it is so flexible, a hinge for example, can become a working part of your page. This hinge, whilst decorative, is actually attached to a section of my page which opens up!

So . . . why not check out the range of Tim Holtz Grungeboard at Scrappit today!

Introducing our Design Team!

It's the last day of the working week and time to introduce the last of our Design Team members as well!

Shirley Fyfe

I began scrapbooking in September 2002 and it quickly became so much more than a hobby - there is not a day that goes by where I do not think about scrapbooking in one form or another. I love the fact that I am able to 'capture' so many memories about my photographs and our lives that will be treasured for many years to come.

What I love even more though is the creative process of scrapbooking - from the planning of my pages to playing with all the diverse materials that are out there. I love finding new and innovative wat to adapt products and techniques to my style of scrapbooking.

I became a Design Team member for Scrappit in January 2003 and was appointed their Design Team Co-Ordinator in 2005. I am so appreciaive of the opportunities that have developed for me during this time. I have been widely published in various Australian Scrapbooking Magazines and was very fortunate to spend 6 months working on the 'For Keeps Creative Scrapbooking' Design Team as well.

I live in Longford, Victoria with my wonderfully supportive husband Stuart and our two handsome young boys James & Adam. When I'm not Scrapbooking I enjoy spending time with my family, photography, gardening, cooking and researching our family tree.

5 Fun Facts About Shirley:

  1. Favourite Drink: Iced water
  2. Favourite Colour To Wear: Any shade of blue
  3. Favourite Day Of The Week: Sunday - my dear hubby is at home and we get to spend the day together as a family
  4. Favourite Holiday Destination: Tathra on the NSW coast - I have lots of childhood memories from our holidays there and now get to enjoy them all over again as we take our boys on holidays there!
  5. Favourite Music Artist/Band: I'm quite partial to country music - Keith Urban, Shania Twain and The McClymonts are my favs at the moment!

Introducing our Design Team!

It's time to introduce the 4th member of the Scrappit Design Team

Sharon Jeffs

I live in South Australia with my husband Matt and two children, Emma and Sarah. I fell into scrapbooking after my best friend passed away and found it the best way to find peace in myself. In addition to scrapping I am also a Primary Teacher and pride myself in slowly turning my class into scrapbookers!

My favourite colours are pink and purple and my favourite techniques are using lots of paint effects and distressing. My preferred style would probably be collage and shabby chic.

When I am not scrapbooking (not very often) I love to read books by Patricia Conwell and anyone else who writes about forensics!

My favourite quote is one by Anne Frank, "In spite of everything I still believe in the goodness of humankind". I read it when in school and it has always given me strength and guidance.

5 Fun Facts About Sharon:
  1. Favourite Drink: Coke Zero – I love coke!
  2. Favourite Colour To Wear: Red, I always loved pink and purple growing up but lately I have absolutely become crazy for red!
  3. Favourite Day Of The Week: Friday! Easy one, it’s the end of the week!
  4. Favourite Holiday Destination: Melbourne – to all the different shopping clearance centres!
  5. Favourite Music Artist/Band: I love music by a fair few groups/artists but the ones I’m listening to but since I just bought their album I would have to say Anberlin at the moment. They’re very different to the average band – kind of a cross between U2 and Evermore!

Introducing our Design Team!

It's day 3 of the 'Introducing our Design Team' feature and today we'd like to you to meet

Penny Ash

I am blessed to have a wonderful husband Peter and three great kids, Christopher, David and Katelyn, to scrapbook a part of their history. I have become quite a teller of tales within my pages and shared some of the good and bad experiences in our daily lives. I am able to convey my thoughts and those of my family not always by the written word but by the expressions on their faces and through their eyes.

During the past five years I have been developing my scrapbooking skills to the point of having several layouts published in Scrapbooking Memories with a highlight of reaching the SM Masters short list for the last two years. This has broadened my experience with projects, cards and layouts being published in three different publications. Being able to creatively express myself has deepened my love of this craft. I love being able to incorporate other techniques like sewing, inking and photography on my layouts.

I live just south of Brisbane in a small suburb called Daisy Hill and work full time as an Administration Manager, which leaves me a limited amount of time to create all those wonderful ideas that keep rolling around in my head. I am so looking forward to sharing some of my layouts with you and hope that I can inspire you to share a little of yourself in your pages too.

5 Fun Facts About Penny
  1. Favourite Drink: Cold - Water (boring I know), Hot - Skinny Chai Latte (the best), End of the Day - A glass of White Wine
  2. Favourite Colour To Wear: Pink
  3. Favourite Day Of The Week: Saturday - after DD's netball game I get to to spend time in my craft room creating
  4. Favourite Holiday Destination: Gold Coast of course
  5. Favourite Music Artist/Band: That's a toughie, I love so many different artists - but I'll go with Sting

Introducing our Design Team!

Let's take a moment to meet the next member of the Scrappit Design Team

Frances Lake

I started scrapbooking in 2003 & basically have a passion for it. When do I scrap? Well between 4 kids, a husband & a full time day job, I squash it in to any spare time I have. With all that going on there are plenty of photos & funny moments. My life is busy & my friends would tell you I scrap fast & I love a challenge.

I can usually find something to do with almost any paper you can find & am pretty good with colour. I like co-ordinating different products & can not really pin point a style. I have both girls & a son, we holiday & do day trips & I have found it gives me opportunities to scrap so many varieties of photos that every page is different.

New products are my thing & I am addicted to ribbons, bling . . . well just scrapbooking in general really!

I started designing classes for Scrappit in November 2007 & have enjoyed the challenge of watching people grasp new techniques.

I look forward to sharing more ideas with everyone soon.

5 Fun Facts About Frances:
  1. Favourite Drink: Diet coke for something soft & Bourborn & coke when the day gets tough . . . LOL
  2. Favourite colour to wear: Blue
  3. Favoutirte day of the week: Saturday - I get to sleep in (as much as I can with kids)
  4. Favourite Holiday Destination: The Gold Coast - warm weather & an escape from reality
  5. Favourite Music/Band : Maroon 5, a variety of music but especially alternative music like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, etc.

Introducing our Design Team!

So that you can get to know each member of the Scrappit Design Team a little better, we are going to introduce you to each one of our creative members every day this week.

Cathy Clifford

Hi! I'm Cathy, married to Darren and we have a son, Cayden and a daughter, Emma.

I've been into craft all my life, cross stich, painting, knitting you name it I had at least tried it! Then in 1996/97 we started looking around for a way to do our wedding invites as I wanted to do them myself so we could save some money! (Ha!) So I tried my hand at stamping and embossing and as they say, the rest is history!

My scrapping started also around the same time when I did our wedding guest book that included photos of myself and then to be husband as we grew up and photos together. I didn't really take my scrapping much further at that time until my we found we were expecting our first child in 2002 and then I got into scrapping in a large way!

Now I like to combine stamping & scrapping, that's why I like scrapping so much as it is a way to combine all art mediums into my 'classic' papercrafting style.

5 Fun Facts about Cathy:

  1. Favourite Drink: Coke
  2. Favourite Colour To Wear: Blue
  3. Favourite Day Of The Week: Friday
  4. Favourite Holiday Destination: Anywhere in Australia…preferably with some sun!
  5. Favourite Music Artist/Band: 70’s/80’s music, although I am partial to Robbie Williams!
